The Eastern Townships Resource Centre (ETRC) seeks to preserve and promote the history of the Eastern Townships of Quebec; to that end, we are pleased to provide archival instruction sessions to the Bishop’s University community and beyond. Please complete this form to make a request for an instruction session.
Who can request an instruction session?
– Bishop’s University instructors
– Champlain Regional College – Lennoxville instructors
– Instructors at other Eastern Townships schools, colleges, universities (subject to discussion)
– Community group leaders
– Instruction sessions are not limited to History courses – talk to us about how the ETRC can enrich your students’ learning experience!
When are instruction sessions available?
– Preference for Monday-Friday, 9am-4:30pm
– Exceptions to the above schedule are subject to discussion
– Excludes weekends, statutory holidays, and periods when Bishop’s University is closed
Where are instruction sessions given?
– Preference for Bishop’s University campus
– Travel within the Eastern Townships region is subject to discussion
– Virtual instruction sessions are also available
What topics are covered in an instruction session?
– Instructors will discuss their preferences with the ETRC staff to determine topics to be covered. The following are some examples:
- Introduction to the ETRC
- Introduction to archives
- Introduction to research with archival databases
- Primary source analysis
- Specific historical subject (e.g. WWI, WWII, women, etc.)
Why should you request an instruction session?
– Students from all disciplines can benefit from understanding how archives function and how primary sources augment research.
– The ETRC provides hands-on, experiential learning opportunities to students to enhance their comprehension and retention of course material.
– A guest instruction session can diversify course delivery, providing a unique experience that students are sure to appreciate!
